Myspace, “A place for isolation!”

How many of you have a cell phone, computer, blog, Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, or any other form of technology that make communicating easier? For the majority I would guess a good 75% if not much higher then my highly inaccurate guess!

The main function of these technologies are to keep friends in touch and filling each other in on what’s going on in their life regardless of distance, time, or whatever else stops you. In our Myspaced world information is everywhere and now with smart phones sales on the rise we can literally access any kind of information we want at any time, place, and connivence, and our friends are certainly not left out either. With the tap of a few keys and a click we can communicate what where doing, where we’re at, how we feel, and what we want people to think about us without any hesitation.

I am often amazed at what people will post about themselves, very little is private anymore. We’ve become addicted to the “play-by-play” of our lives and convincing others how great we are! We now have the pleasure of becoming as self-obsessed as we choose in our McDonald like “Have it your way” status! By no means am I insisting that I am excused from this behavior as I am guilty of it as well, I mean look at what your reading, a blog dedicated to mostly me… and what I do!

This is the whole beef I have with the technology is that you have control of what you put out for people to read, you can in a sense be whoever you want. Kind of like what the country singer Brad Paisley sings about in his song “Online,” if you know the song you know what I’m communicating here! The internet has allowed the “attention deprived” to stand out and say “Hey, look how awesome I am and what I’ve been doing,” rather then actually calling your friends and sharing experiences on a…. I don’t know more personal basis maybe? Our generation has a real emptiness about it consuming more media and information that is mostly garbage anyway, like “Check out the Obamas’ temporary quarters,” which is real headline I that I pulled from a major news websites!  Trying to keep up with all of the “news,” status updates, bulletins, and blogs is literally exhausting!

What are we called to do in our lives? Our “I” oriented world wants us to be rich, powerful, famous, and so on! But if we cannot help people other then ourselves then what are we useful for? And by hoarding ourselves away to just our computers and cell phones what are we accomplishing in our lives. With the new year upon us I have given this blog entry a lot of thought and consideration. I haven’t updated this blog in almost a month for  the exact reason I’m writing this, I’ve grown tired of updating and I really needed a break from all of this. Which is why for this New Year I hope to be less dependent of technology as a means of spending my time. As I mentioned before I’m guilty of these things myself and with a fresh start this year I hope to deny myself a little more and give a little more attention to the things that are truly important, and I would hope that the rest of us would as well! Happy New Year!

This morning I was rudely awoken and I do mean rudely, “wake up wake up it’s snowing” to see snow in South Louisiana! Emily above throwing a snowball at Lauren who is just behind me! Wow, is all I can say, this only occurs every 20 years so you know we took full advantage of this snow day!

I think this explains itself!

I have a ton of things going on this month and trying to get everything together! Don’t you love how things are quite for a while and BOOM, everyone is calling you and asking for things! I guess that’s just how things are and will always be! In the meantime check out this t-shirt design I just finished up for a local youth group for their winter retreat! Enjoy guys!

Vacation is over!

Last week I got some much needed rest and quite time just to do nothing…. And I mean nothing! So now it’s over, I’m sad and things are once again never ending but that in itself is great as well! New stuff coming soon!

Before and After

So I’m finally catching up with my post…. ah finally! Here is a before and after comparison of a shot of Rebecca from this past weekend! Really great shoot with everything in our favor, the natural light was producing great rim light along with a beauty dish up front for the key light, not a whole lot of wind and Rebecca was a great model! The only thing that was bothering me was that it was a little cold and there was tons I mean tons of cow crap everywhere! haha The tree line to the right in the original photo was really an eyesore and just making the photo really unbalanced so I flipped the remaining field to the left to complete my quest for making things symmetrical, if you’ve noticed with my recent work has had alot of this, but it’s definitely just a thing of mine right now so go with it!

Haha I loved this photo that we got of Ben a couple weeks ago during his shoot! I can’t recall having a better time on a shoot then with Ben, great sense of humor and definitely an entertaining guy to hang around with, not to mention a pretty snazzy dancer! Yes I said snazzy, but on a more serious note you can check out some shots we got that day below!

“Are you guys shooting a movie?”

Which is the question we were asked when shooting some new stuff for Blake’s portfolio in downtown St. Martiville! We had equipment everywhere cords hanging in places were my lights were in real danger of being destroyed only to be surprised by an awesome location and not needing the lights at all! Blake and I came across this Restaurant (which I can’t remember it’s name) located in downtown St. Martinville! We were working on limited time shooting within the property  so I didn’t want to get caught up dragging lights all over the place, besides this place had amazing natural light! I couldn’t have asked for more with this place and you’ll definitely see me shooting here again!

October and November have proved to be way busier than expected which is great and scary all at the same time! I’ve been booked solid and I know I’m going to be busy come the start of the new year but things are busy now and December is looking good, so my busy new year is actually starting now! Which is why I haven’t posted in a while, man I really need to set aside some time to post on a usual basis! We did some senior photos for Lani (above) who is also my girlfriends little sister which I will share some more with you guys as soon as we finish up shooting. (yes multiple shoots)

The Past couple of days have definitely been both great and horrible all at the same strange time. I’ve been sick with a nasty stomach virus since thursday of last week and it’s still holding strong in my system. In between shots of Pepto-Bismol out of my brown paper bag I had 2 shoots this weekend that I couldn’t miss. One of which you can see above is Rachel who is an awesome model that definitely has a future in it if she so chose. And my second shoot with a senior that I’m currently editing as we speak, that I’ll have up for posting soon!
